"I fell in love with the 'Dirt Floor'-LP by Chris Whitley and picked up the green National NRP right after to be my main songwriting tool. I guess this was around the time we finished working on Tears on Tape with HIM and started getting ready to tour.
I ended up playing the National quite a bit on stage as well, mostly on When Love and Death Embrace and For You. Here's an example from Australia in 2014.
Before touring the finnish luthier Lottonen, who always serviced all stringed instruments played by HIM, went through the instrument and added a second pickup to it, making it possible to come up with all sorts of stereo FX weirdness and such, as you can hear here.
Once HIM was done and dusted in late 2017 I felt I needed to refresh my palette, and the National has been sitting in its case ever since. Until now that is."
